The Coscoroba Swan breeds in South America from southern Chile and central Argentina south to Tierra del Fuego and the Falkland Islands. In winter it flies north to central Chile, northern Argentina, Uruguay and the south east tip of Brazil. The habitat is well-vegetated swamps and lagoons, where it lives mainly on grasses and small water plants, but also mussels and fish. The population is estimated as 100,000 birds, hence it is regarded as an endangered species. The female incubates the eggs, while the male stands guard and aggressively helps to protect the fledglings against predators after hatching. It lives to an age of approximately twenty years.
El cisne Coscoroba vive en Sudamérica desde el sur de Chile y la Argentina central hasta el sur de la Tierra del Fuego y las islas Malvinas. En invierno vuela hacia el norte, llegando a Chile central, norte de Argentina y Uruguay y el extremo sudeste de Brasil. Su hábitat consiste en pantanos bien tupidos y lagunas, donde se alimenta principalmente de pastos, plantas acuáticas pequeñas e incluso peces y mejillones. Se estima que su población es de 100,000 individuos, por lo tanto se la considera una especie en peligro de extinción. La hembra incuba los huevos mientras que el macho ayuda a proteger a las crías de los predadores luego de la eclosión. Vive hasta 20 años.
